Ft. Payne, AL (WAFF) - DeKalb County investigators got some high tech help in cracking a three month old pharmacy burglary.
According to Sheriff Jimmy Harris, 33 year old Carson Weldon of Flat Rock has been arrested and charged with the February 6th break-in at a pharmacy in Fyffe. Harris says that the burglars who broke a window to get into the shop left behind plenty of forensic evidence - blood and flesh from cutting themselves on that window.
Investigators sent off the material to the state forensic lab and got a quick result. Weldon's DNA was on file from a previous arrest. "I know people think we take evidence and nothing ever happens but this case is an example of how important it is to be thorough." Harris said in a prepared release. "This suspect was matched in less than 90 days because his DNA was already in the system for comparison.
