Suspect in 5 burglaries nabbed after chase

Ft. Payne, AL (WAFF) - Police in Ft. Payne believe that a rash of home burglaries in the area may finally be over, with the arrest of a 31 year old man from Higdon.

Steven Ash, AKA Stephen Eugene Nash, was taken into custody just before 1:00p.m. on Tuesday. Officers say they saw a car matching the description of a vehicle involved in several recent break-ins. The driver also matched the description of a suspect in at least five cases. The driver jumped out of the car and ran off, but police were able to catch up with him after a brief foot chase.

DeKalb county Drug Task Force Agents were called in to assist in the case, and immediately noted that Ash was wearing a green hoodie, similar to the one described in some of the burglary cases.

Ash is being held in the Ft. Payne City Jail without bond, facing five counts of burglary. Chief Randy Bynum would personally like to thank the public for the tips called in this week and local Police Departments in their help in nabbing the suspect.
