Two in custody as explosives investigation unfolds | Crime
Ider, AL (WAFF) - DeKalb County investigators went on a manhunt for two men trying to sell explosives in the Ider area this week.
According to Sheriff Jimmy Harris, his deputies were tipped off about the scheme Wednesday. After several hours, they found a quantity of explosives and detonation cord at an undisclosed location. By then, local, state and federal officials had joined in the investigation.
The explosives were seized by the ATF and Alabama Department of Public Safety and will be disposed of.
Two men were taken into custody. Their names are not being released at this time, at the request of the Ft. Payne Police Department.
Investigators say the men were not aware of just how strong the explosives they had were. "These young men were fortunate that an explosion did not occur while they were in possession of the material," Sheriff Harris said. He's also asking for anyone who may have come into contact with explosives to call him. "We will investigate and arrange for removal."
