Rainsville businessman arrested, charged with rape | Crime
DeKalb County Sheriff's deputies arrested Keary Edward Chandler, 50 years old of Rainsville, on Tuesday, February 21 and charged him with rape second degree based on a complaint filed this year.
The alleged incident took place approximately 25 years ago and involved a 12-year-old female.
The charge is based on Alabama law which states a person commits the crime of rape in the second degree if: being 16 years old or older, he or she engages in sexual intercourse with a member of the opposite sex less than 16 years old and more than 12 years old; provided, however, the actor is at least two years older than the member of the opposite sex. Rape second is a Class B Felony.
The case was presented to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and is still being investigated by them and the District Attorney’s Office.
