Prescribed burn planned at Little River Canyon National Preserve | Environment
A prescribed burn is scheduled for March 28 at Little River National Preserve to reduce hazardous fuels in the forested regions and to enhance native habitats. The prescribed burn will be started if weather conditions are favorable.
The Kral's Burn Unit is located on the south side of Highway 35, directly across from the Canyon Center, and west of Highway 176 to Mushroom Rock. This unit, including Rim Road and Beaver Pond Trail, will be closed the day of and possibly after the burn.
The Great Smoky Mountain National Park's Wild Land Fire Module will assist in the burn. Prescribed fires help to decrease the impact and danger of wildfires. The National Park Service follows specific guidelines and uses extreme caution when conducting the burns.
