Each year, the Fort Payne Garden Club sponsors an event where visitors can tour some of the most beautiful gardens the city has to offer. The 2012 Tour of Gardens is Saturday from 1-5 pm and precedes National Garden Week on June 3-9.

Fort Payne City Council to hold special meeting next week

Fort Payne City Council to hold special meeting next week

The Fort Payne City Council will hold a specially called meeting next week.

They will formally accept the resignation of council member Kevin Chitwood.

The council will also talk about filling that vacancy.

The council will meet this Tuesday at noon.

There is no word on why Chitwood is resigning.

Painter to hold impressionist workshop

Painter to hold impressionist workshop

Caroline Nuckolls will hold a two-day impressionist painting workshop.

The workshop will be held in Kamama Gallery in Mentone starting Friday, May 25 at 9:00 a.m.

Theere is a $125 workshop fee. Participants will need to bring their own supplies.

Appalachian Highlands Birding trail to open May 12

Nine east-central Alabama counties will come together on May 12 to launch the Appalachian Highlands Birding Trail.

The newly developed trail is the sixth of eight organized trails that will ultimately cover the state as birding becomes an increasingly important source of tourism revenue for Alabama.

The official trail launch will take place at 10:30 a.m. at The Canyon Center at Little River National Preserve.
