Bobby's Bama: Sally Howard Chapel

Bobby's Bama: Sally Howard Chapel

DEKALB COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - An Indian emperor built the Taj Mahal as a symbol of love for his wife.

And while it isn't as grand, there's a special spiritual structure right here in North Alabama built by a Congressman for his wife.

You will find no 'sinking sand' at the Sally Howard Chapel in the forest of Dekalb County. You WILL find a chapel built into solid rock, as solid as Congressman Milford W. Howard's love for his first wife.

"His first wife loved California. She didn't like it here... and in Los Angeles, I believe it was, was this church she loved, The Wee Kirk of the Heather, modeled after one in Scotland," said Elizabeth S. Howard.

But there is one item only found here.

"It was not embedded in a rock.

Operation Clean Sweep activated in DeKalb County

Operation Clean Sweep activated in DeKalb County

DeKalb County and the city of Rainsville have been approved for “Operation Clean Sweep”.

Generally, debris removal from private property following a disaster is the responsibility of the property owner. However, large-scale disasters may deposit enormous quantities of debris on private property over a large area resulting in widespread immediate threats to the public-at-large.

In authorizing Operation Clean Sweep, the president determined that it was in the public interest to authorize debris removal from private property, focusing on residential property, to facilitate a speedier recovery and rebuilding on these parcels.

Trip to Atlanta is quick and economical

With spring break quickly approaching and gas prices creeping higher and higher, you may be looking for someplace to have fun without breaking the bank or your gas tank!

I decided to take a trip just 3 hours from my house to Atlanta.  Home of Coca-Cola, CNN, Turner Broadcasting, Georgia Aquarium, and the Braves, Hawks, and the Falcons.

This state capital is great for families, couples, and groups. One thing that I really liked is that Atlanta is a military friendly city. While on my trip I stayed a downtown hotel close to the Georgia Aquarium and World of Coke.  It was a short walk to everywhere we wanted to go.

We started our day out touring CNN.  You get to go throughout the building and learn about how a story gets to your TV so quickly.
