Contractors have moved on to interior work of the DeKalb County Coliseum.
In February it was reported that the exterior work was complete and a reccomendation was made to approve a bid for interior construction.
Improvements include central heating and air, new bleachers and a new elevator.
The bid for interior work was awarded to Boatner Construction of Rainbow City for just under $2.1 million. Insurance will pay about half of the bill, with the county covering the remaining expenses.
The county will have to pay $972,000 primarily to cover improvements for the building. During inspection of the building after it was damaged on April 27 by a tornado, it was discovered that repairs to the building would also have to bring the code up to current Alabama building codes.
The school system will use money from Alabama’s public school fund to pay for the improvements on the building.
